A new unemployment insurance scheme was announced in October 2022.
Effective June 30, 2023, all private sector employees in the UAE (excluding freezones) must register. Contributions are AED 5/month for earnings below AED 16,000 and AED 10/month for higher earnings.
Eligibility for benefits requires 12 months of enrollment and 12 months of employer contributions. Eligible employees can receive 60% of their registered monthly salary (up to AED 20,000) for three months post-termination.
Employers are encouraged to facilitate employee registration and contributions.
